This Veterans Day, �������� honors the service of our veterans and celebrate their transition into civilian careers. �������� is proud to be a certified employer, helping service members like Sean Kelly take the next step in their career.

connects transitioning service members with approved SkillBridge employers, providing targeted industry training and valuable work experience. Becoming a certified SkillBridge employer strengthens the company’s commitment to supporting and recruiting veterans.

The first hire through the program is Sean Kelly, a 20-year Navy Seabee veteran.

As a military retiree, Sean knew he wanted to continue to stay with construction as a civilian and �������� was the first company that came to mind. Living in Hampton Roads, VA, for the last 10 years, he was familiar with the �������� black trucks and the company history with the military. “I knew that this was the right choice for me,” he said.

The company history is deeply connected to the Seabees. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, �������� C. Myers joined the U.S. Navy and served with the Seabees during WWII, constructing and repairing vital infrastructure. He returned home with best practices and the Seabees’ “can do” motto, which became the foundation of the company ever since. 

This past summer, Sean joined the Norfolk International Terminal (NIT) project as a Field Operations Trainer, working alongside Project Manager Jason Boland. Over the past 12 weeks, Sean supported the project performing inventory and quantity checks, assisting crews, and learning the business side of construction. He joined the project as it moved into Phase 2, offering him the opportunity to see this massive project advance.

“It’s so interesting to me because I’ve seen real progress being made in a short time,” said Sean.

Sean’s dedication and adaptability stood out. “His willingness to learn caught our attention,” said Jason. “He got engrained with the team and picked things up quickly.”

With the program wrapping up, Sean will officially join the company next week as a Field Engineer on the Newport News Shipyard project.

“My hope is to continue to learn with the ultimate goal of being in project management,” Sean said. “This is the first step, and I’m looking forward to contributing to this project.”

Sean is just the beginning of the company’s partnership with Hiring Our Heroes.

“Our goal is to build this program up,” said Talent Acquisition Manager Carrie Westgate. “We want to hire veterans because of the leadership they bring and their work ethic. We’d like them to stay here long term and plant roots.”

This Veterans Day we honor all veterans and celebrate the positive impact of programs like SkillBridge.

There are more than 120 veterans currently employed by �������� and we salute them and thank them for their honorable service to our country.
